GDPR - The EU General Data Protection Regulation, in effect since 2018; technology-agnostic global baseline for data protection.
In the AIGP body of knowledge, GDPR comes up under Module 5: Existing Laws & AI · BoK III.A.
GDPR in context
- GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, US state privacy laws, biometrics laws like Illinois BIPA and breach laws all reach consumer-facing AI. (Privacy Principles That Govern AI)
- In effect since 2018, the GDPR is the global baseline for data protection, deliberately ==technology-agnostic== so it can evolve alongside AI. (The GDPR and AI)
- Recital 26 territory: ==anonymisation removes data from the GDPR entirely==, while ==pseudonymisation is still personal information== so GDPR obligations apply. (Anonymisation, Pseudonymisation and PETs)
