  1. Understand organisational context → analyse operations and incentive structures → sector (tech, finance, healthcare) and whether the organisation is an AI developer, deployer, user or a combination.
  2. Find champions → identify leaders already using AI who would back governance; teams are pushed to build AI quickly, so show how governance safely and responsibly launches AI solutions.
  3. Responsible AI as differentiator → e.g., AI-focused transparency grounded in governance makes products more appealing to customers.
  4. Show how & why to govern → explain relevant legislation, showcase regulatory statements of concern, proactively present challenges with solutions (ML development needs big investment in engineers, hardware and time).
  5. Be honest about maturity → transparency about the governance maturity level → may mean waiting on advanced AI capabilities until sufficient governance exists to support them.
